The Transition to Teaching (TTT) program at the University of Hawai`i at M?noa (UHM) includes the following three partners: UHM College of Education (COE), the State of Hawai`i Department of Education (HIDOE), and UHM College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR). The goal is to produce 100 highly qualified science and math teachers to be placed in high-need schools in Hawai`i. Individuals teaching science and math, who are unlicensed and have been hired on an emergency basis, are provided content-specific coursework and teaching strategies as well as help in preparing for relevant Praxis content exams. Paraprofessionals who are community college students preparing for, admitted to, and graduating from the College of Education of the University of Hawai`i in secondary mathematics and science are another focus of the program. A post-baccalaureate alternative licensure route program has been implemented for individuals, who already hold science or mathematics degrees, to become certified and to successfully enter secondary teaching.
