The purpose of the Job-Driven Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Assistance Center (JDVRTAC) is to (a) improve the ability of State vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies to work with employers and providers of training to ensure equal access to and greater opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in competitive employment or training; (b) increase the number and quality of employment outcomes in competitive, integrated employment for VR—eligible individuals with disabilities, including broadening the range of occupations for such individuals in such settings, that result from job-driven strategies; and (c) increase the number of VR eligible individuals with disabilities in employer—driven job training programs.

The JDVRTAC provides universal, targeted and intensive technical assistance in four topic areas related to job-driven employment strategies. The four topic areas are:

  • Use of labor market and occupational information by VR counselors and VR consumers for purposes of career planning and Individualized Plan for Employment development;
  • Consultation with employers around individual needs of persons with disabilities in the workplace (services directed to help employers work with individuals with disabilities in the workplace at the individual level of employer engagement…accommodations, assistive technology, etc.);
  • Building relationships with employers (the system level of employer engagement…employer account systems, VR business representatives, Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation’s Talent Acquisition Portal and National Employment Team, etc.)
  • Services to providers of customized training, which is training designed specifically to meet the needs of particular employers…in order to increase the participation of individuals with disabilities in these customized training programs, which often are linked to direct hires after successful completion of training.
