Who May Apply: Institutions of higher education, as defined in section 101 or section 102(c) of the Higher Education Act, that are located in an area in which a major disaster was declared related to Hurricanes Katrina or Rita that were forced to close, relocate or significantly curtail their activities as a result of damage directly caused by the hurricanes. Institutions located in other counties and states are not eligible to apply for Hurricane Education Recovery Awards.

Eligible locations are those counties and parishes listed as eligible for Public Assistance (Assistance to State and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities).
