The five-billion dollar Race to the Top Fund, which is part of the Recovery Act, will be used to encourage educators to develop innovative strategies and programs that improve student achievement. One example of such innovation is at Wakefield High School in Virginia, where the school's Advanced Placement Network program has won widespread recognition. It includes an AP Study Seminar, which teaches study skills and introduces students to more demanding courses through a one-week summer program.
