The Regional Educational Laboratory Program, authorized by Section 941(h) of Part D of the Educational Research, Development, Dissemination, and Improvement Act of 1994 (Title IX of PL 103-227), supports a set of ten regional laboratories to promote knowledge-based school improvement to help all students meet high standards and to help the nation meet the National Education Goals. The laboratories are administered as contracts to the Department of Education. The current laboratories' contracts (for five years) expire in December 2000. The Department has requested funding for the regional laboratories in its FY 2001 budget request. Therefore, the Department is requesting proposals for the Regional Educational Laboratory Program that will result in new five-year awards for regional laboratories in December 2000.
