Table 14. Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program top 100 originators: FY94-FY96
This table summarizes key information on the top 100 lenders of the FFEL program for FY94-FY96. Lenders are ranked according to the dollar amount guaranteed in each fiscal year. The lender name, city, and state are also reported as is the percent of the total FFEL program loan amount that is captured by the top 10, 25, 50, 75, and 100 guarantors nationally.
Citibank consistently was the largest originator of FFEL program loans between FY94 and FY96.
Large lenders accounted for an increasing proportion of loan commitments. The top 100 lenders, representing approximately 2 percent of the total number of lenders, originated 78.9, 80.7, and 83.9 percent of the national loan volume for FY94, FY95, and FY96, respectively.
In FY96, the top 10 percent of lenders originated nearly two out of every five dollars committed the FFEL program (39.5 percent).
