This table shows the number and percent of total FDLP loans and dollar commitments made to postsecondary students between FY94 and FY96. Total FDLP commitments for all loan programs are shown in addition to the commitments for each loan type: Stafford Subsidized, Stafford Unsubsidized, and PLUS, by type of institution (public 2- and 4-year, private 2- and 4-year, and proprietary).

For FY94-FY96, the largest proportion of FDLP loans were committed to students who attended public 4-year institutions and the smallest proportion of the total numbers of FDLP loans were committed to students who attended private 2-year institutions.
In FY94-FY96, the greatest volume of FDLP loans (number and dollar amount) were committed through the Stafford Subsidized loan program.
The proportion of FDLP loans committed to students who attended public 4-year institutions declined between FY94-FY96. In contrast, the proportion of FDLP loans made to students who attended all other types of institutions increased overall between FY94 and FY96.
The total number of FDLP loans increased from 210,000 in FY94 to 2.6 million in FY96, an 11-fold increase. Between FY95 and 1996, the number of loans doubled.

NOTE: FDLP loan data in FY94 only include one-quarter of that fiscal year, and FDLP loans were restricted to a small number of institutions.
