OVAE: Office of Vocational and Adult Education
Current Section

Reauthorization of AEFLA and Perkins

The work of OVAE has focused on three key priorities:

  1. Preparing every American youth to complete high school and be well prepared for postsecondary education and employment;

  2. Supporting community and technical colleges to fulfill their potential as an engine of education, career preparation, workforce development and economic development; and

  3. Expanding adult learning to bring higher levels of literacy and English fluency to millions of underserved Americans.

In support of these priorities, the Office of Vocational and Adult Education has been gathering information from key constituencies related to the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act (Public Law 105-332) and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (Title II of the Workforce Investment Act), which are both scheduled for reauthorization in 2004.
