Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act: Through Our History, Successes, and Vision for the Future
The U.S. Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Services Administration and the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation presents a special feature video, “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act: Through our History, Successes, and Vision for the Future.” In the video, former Senator Tom Harkin recounts the history behind the Rehabilitation Act; guitarist George Dennehy performs his song, "Work Makes the World Go Round," featuring individuals with disabilities at work; and OSERS Assistant Secretary Glenna Wright-Gallo discusses the impact of the Rehabilitation Act. U.S. Department of Education Awards Nearly $199 Million to Improve Career Opportunities for Students With Disabilities Through Partnerships
OSERS Rehabilitation Services Administration announced it will fund 20 model Pathways to Partnerships innovative model demonstration projects focused on improving economic self-sufficiency for children and youth with disabilities by creating systemic approaches to enhance post-school outcomes.

The Office of Special Education Programs released on July 24, 2023, an updated policy guidance, which takes immediate effect, to ensure and strengthen the rights and protections guaranteed to children with disabilities and their families under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

OSERS Deputy Assistant Secretary Katy Neas, OMB Associate Director for Education, Income Maintenance and Labor Sherry Lachman, and OMB Education Program Examiner Bert Wyman released a joint message on the Biden-Harris administration’s stance at promoting early intervention services, or EIS, for infants and toddlers with disabilities.

In implementing this mission, OSERS supports programs that help educate children and youth with disabilities and provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities. OSERS provides a wide array of supports to parents and individuals, school districts and states in two main areas—special education and vocational rehabilitation—through its two main components: OSEP and RSA.
