Daniel J. Miller is the deputy assistant secretary for management and planning in the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE). He is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the responsibilities of the Management Support Unit (MSU) and the Executive Office in OPE. Dan advises the assistant secretary on matters related to these two units. MSU is responsible for operations management, serving as the primary catalyst for developing and implementing effective management practices, continuous improvement processes, and organizational capacity building. The Executive Office establishes procedures, devotes sufficient resources, and clarifies lines of authority and accountability to ensure that the administrative service needs of the offices are met in a timely and consistent manner.

Dan has served in a variety of positions in the Department, including as executive officer for OPE, and as chief of staff, executive officer, and deputy director of adult education and literacy in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education.

Dan has over 30 years of experience in progressive program administration. Prior to joining the Department, Dan served as the assistant secretary at the Illinois Department of Human Services; division director of community and family partnerships at the Illinois State Board of Education; and in a variety of administrative and support positions at Danville Community College in Danville, Illinois. He holds degrees from Eastern Illinois University.
