The information below will provide you with what you need to know now that you have started in your position at ED. All ED employees are required by law to complete specific training on Federal ethics, employee conduct, human resource management, safety, and information security. In addition, this section provides information on other useful topics for new ED employees. Please take particular note of the sections indicated as mandatory.

IT Security (mandatory)
To gain access to ED’s IT system it is important for you to complete your mandatory IT Security training in a timely manner. Follow this link to review the steps needed to ensure you are up to date on ED IT cyber security steps and protocols.

Internal Controls (mandatory)
This link covers the purpose of internal control training is to ensure ED employees are familiar with them.

Ethics Training
This link provides a brief summary of the ethics rules and standards of ethical conduct that all employees should know and follow. It also covers issues of conflict of interest and consequences for unprofessional behavior. Information in this session is mandatory for all new employees.

Courtesy Policy Training
This training explains ED’s Courtesy Policy and reviews the importance of courteous behavior, requirements of the Department’s Courtesy policy, responsibilities of the Department’s staff at various levels and how it applies to you, and consequences of violating the policy.

Performance Management
This link provides an explanation of the current performance management system in place at ED. Your supervisor will provide you with more specific information on your performance standards and how they are measured in one-on-one conversation with you after your arrival.

Privacy Safeguards
This link introduces you to ED’s privacy safeguards program and your responsibilities for protecting the personal information that ED collects from millions of students, parents, grantees, employees, contractors and others.

Regulatory Information Management
This link covers the appropriate Department (ED) use and management of information the government collects and maintains.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Center
This link provides an overview about the services offered by the ADR Center to all employees to informally resolve employment disputes before the dispute advances to a formal complaint stage.

EAP services are available to you at no cost for confidential help with work, family, personal matters, or legal or financial issues.
