Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990: Montana Tech of the University of Montana (MT) (10086001)

OCR conducted a compliance review of Montana Tech of the University of Montana.  The purpose of the review was to determine whether the college provides appropriate physical accessibility to the college’s facilities, programs and services as required by section 504 and Title II.  After reviewing written information provided by the college, interviewing college staff and students, and conducting an on-site accessibility assessment of selected facilities and features of the college campus from August 18 - 22, 2008, OCR identified compliance concerns regarding campus accessibility.  On August 20, 2010, the university and OCR entered into an agreement to resolve the compliance concerns identified by OCR.  The agreement requires the university to (1) provide accessible restrooms in identified buildings and facilities; (2) provide accessible seating in the campus basketball facility and football coliseum; (3) install audible alarms in the campus auditorium building; (4) provide accessible parking on campus; (5) identify an accessible pedestrian route on campus and provide notice of the route to the public and college staff and students; and (6) install appropriate accessibility signage on all building and facility entrances.  OCR closed the investigative phase of the review on August 31, 2010.  OCR is currently monitoring the college’s actions to satisfy the requirements of the agreement.
