  • new bullet Call for Proposals for NCRE Fall Conference
    RSA is soliciting a Call for Proposals for the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) Fall Conference, being held Nov. 3–5, 2013. Proposals are due July 14, 2013. The conference is a means of facilitating communication and sharing information among professionals involved in training, recruiting, hiring and enhancing the development of qualified rehabilitation counselors. The theme of the conference is: “Building on the Best: Designs for Success.”
  • National Online Dialogue to Shape Federal Strategies to Assist Young People with Disabilities as They Transition from School to Work.
    The U.S. Departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services and the Social Security Administration will host the event May 13-27 and invite policymakers, educators, service providers, families, youth, the advocacy community and others to join this conversation to improve transition outcomes.  To register for and participate in the dialogue, visit the Federal Partners in Transition feedback community.
  • Policy report: Promise for the Future: How Federal Programs Can Improve Career Outcomes for Youth & Young Adults with Serious Mental Health Conditions.
    This publication examines various federal programs that can provide assistance in meeting the educational, vocational and basic supports needs of youth and young adults (from ages 16 to 30) with serious mental health conditions (SMHCs).

    The department is analyzing information received from the Request for Information (RFI) on Strategies for Improving Outcomes for Disconnected Youth, published on June 4, 2012. The comment period closed on July 5, 2012 and over 170 comments were received.
  • New Publication: Youth Mental Health Bill of Rights
    This new one-pager lists the Youth Mental Health Bill of Rights as first outlined on the back page of the 2009 Youth Summit Report.

    The Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) launched its new YCC Website, a portal for OSERS to share transition news, events, youth-specific information, and a range of other resources.
  • Fiscal Year 2012 National Employment Conference, “The New Economy: Rethink, Realign, and Reinvent”
    This conference, held December 5–7, 2012, provided a forum for Vocational Rehabilitation state agency staff and its partners to discuss innovative strategies that assist individuals with disabilities, including youth with disabilities, to secure employment.
