Urban Listening & Learning Sessions - The U.S. Department of Education held four (4) Listening and Learning sessions in urban Indian communities in spring 2011. The urban Indian Listening and Learning sessions were held in Denver, CO; Green Bay, WI; Stockton, CA and Los Angeles, CA. These Listening and Learning sessions in urban Indian communities were a follow-up to a series of 2010 Tribal leader consultations that were conducted in Anchorage, AK; Santa Clara Pueblo, NM; Shawnee, OK; Pine Ridge, SD; Window Rock, AZ; and Puyallup, WA.
The sessions provided participants an opportunity to voice their thoughts and engage in dialogue with senior officials from the Department. The Department is committed to moving forward in Indian education and anticipates that interactions among Tribal, State, and Local officials, Indian education stakeholders, and the Department will lead to a more effective education policy.
