Funding: Research grants are up to $20,000 for one-year projects, or up to $35,000 for two year projects.
Description: The American Educational Research Association Grants Program provides small grants, fellowships, and training for researchers who conduct studies of education policy. Research topics may cover a wide range of policy- or practice-related issues that include but are not limited to: school persistence and career entry; teachers and teaching; policies and practices related to student achievement and assessment; policies and practices that influence student and parental attitudes; contextual factors (individual, curricular, and school related) in education; education in middle schools; educational participation and persistence (kindergarten through graduate school); at-risk students; early childhood education; school finance; materials (curriculum) development, research and informal science education; the supply (pipeline) of students taking mathematics and science courses from K-12; the quality of educational institutions; and methodological studies.

Description: The foundation is interested in education from early education through higher education. The primary focus is on higher education, with 90% of their grant support for education being given through specific higher education programs. Of specific interest to their funding are fully accredited tribally controlled colleges throughout the United States. The foundation also supports programs that seek to improve the quantity and quality of mathematics and science education available to girls and minority students, and to encourage collaboration among mathematics and science education programs for girls and minorities in Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Description: The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language maintenance and linguistic field work. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work which has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other will also be considered. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in funding decisions.

Description: The Foundation's giving reflects its commitment to bring innovations in health and learning to the global community. Description: The primary mission of the Foundation, as articulated by its founder, Lyle M. Spencer, is "to investigate ways in which education can be improved, around the world."
