Teaching Ambassador Fellowship
Bio/Overview: Humphreys is an elementary physical education teacher at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Arlington, VA. He came to teaching by way of the Johns Hopkins ProMAT program in partnership with Montgomery County, Maryland. He entered the profession as a middle school English teacher, and then continued on to his true passion, history. This included teaching stops at both middle school and high school, where he taught World Studies and AP Psychology, respectively. As the son of an educator, Humphreys followed his true calling to enter the classroom following a stint as a professional baseball player and a brief career in the industry’s front office.
Educational Values/Philosophy: While settling into the world of physical education, Humphreys has begun pioneering programs that establish meaningful communication channels with student stakeholders; a long-overlooked aspect of most PE programs. With childhood obesity and related health concerns recently moving to center stage in this country, he is determined to create and deliver meaningful health and physical education instruction that cultivates a generation of healthy young people committed to lifelong activity.
Achievements: Humphreys is a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Early Adolescent—Social Studies, Early Adolescent—English/Language Arts, and and Early/Middle Childhood—Physical Education. As a physical education teacher, Humphreys has applied for and received more than $8,000 in grant funding and has piloted a partnership with Sqord, a start-up company that produces 3D accelerometers for kids.
Leadership Experience: : Humphreys has served as a facilitator for an NBCT Candidate Support Provider class and acted as a state team leader for NBPTS’s “Hill Day” in 2011. He also was a participant in 2011‘s inaugural ED Goes Back to School, hosting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications Development David Hoff.

Education: Humphreys received his Bachelor’s degree from Brown University with a dual concentration in psychology and history and went on to earn a Master’s in teaching from Johns Hopkins University.
