Bio/Overview: Ledesma recently joined the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) as a Director of Educator Engagement to engage more NBCTs in educational policy discussions. Prior to this, Ledesma was a middle school Special Education Department Chair and School Based Technology Specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools. Ledesma is a blogger for Education Week Teacher and a doctoral candidate at George Mason University, where he is studying teacher education, instructional technology, and data driven decision making. He has also taught various technology professional development courses for his district and has taught special education, technology integration, and National Board certification graduate courses for George Mason University as an adjunct instructor.
Educational Values/Philosophy: Always learn new things, because change is inevitable.
Achievements: Ledesma earned National Board Certification in 2001, which led to exciting projects with Apple and the Center for Teaching Quality.
Leadership Experience: As a special education department chair, Ledesma was responsible for the coordination and management of services at his middle school. Ledesma has worked in the staff development at the district office where he managed the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Program and assisted with the new teacher mentoring programs. Ledesma has presented at various national and state conferences for the Alliance of Excellent Education, Association of Education Publishers (AEP), American Research Education Association (AERA), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (VAASCD), and the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA). Ledesma is also currently working on a project with NBPTS to increase minority recruitment.
