PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Striving Readers aimed to

  • Raise middle and high school students' literacy levels in Title I-eligible schools with significant numbers of students reading below grade-levels.
  • Build a strong, scientific research base for identifying and replicating strategies that improve adolescent literacy skills.

TYPES OF PROJECTS

Striving Readers projects, funded in 2009, included

  • A supplemental literacy intervention targeted to students reading significantly below grade level;
  • A strong experimental evaluation component.

Striving Readers projects, funded in 2006, included

  • A supplemental literacy intervention targeted to students reading significantly below grade level;
  • A school-wide literacy program for improving student literacy in all disciplines 2006 cohort.
  • A strong experimental evaluation component.
