Race to the Top Fund
The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce that it will be hosting two Technical Assistance Planning Workshops for potential Race to the Top applicants to review technical and logistical aspects of the competition. At the workshops, Department staff will review the Race to the Top selection criteria, requirements, and priorities and answer technical questions about the Race to the Top program. A draft agenda is attached.
The first workshop will be in Denver, Colorado on December 3, 2009. The second workshop will be in Baltimore-Washington area on December 10, 2009. These two workshops will cover the same content, so we recommend that applicants attend whichever one of the two workshops is most convenient. For those who cannot attend in person, we will provide a conference call-in number for the December 10 workshop. In addition, we will post transcripts of the workshops at www.ed.gov/programs/racetothetop. Next spring, we intend to host one or more similar workshops to support States preparing their Phase 2 applications.
The target audiences for the December workshops are the State teams that are crafting Phase 1 Race to the Top applications. States may bring up to five team members. To ensure that priority space is reserved for them, States must register by November 30 for the Denver event, and by December 4 for the Baltimore-Washington event.
If you are an official state team member, please coordinate with the relevant agencies in your State to complete one registration form that includes the names and contact information for each of the official state team members that will be attending either the Denver event (deadline November 30) or the Baltimore event (deadline December 4).
The workshops are also open to support organizations and associations that have an interest or stake in their State's Race to the Top applications; members of the public may attend as well. However, due to limited seating capacity, priority will go to State team members. All registrants who are not part of a State's team will be placed on a waitlist; it is unlikely that any organization will be allotted more than one or two participant slots. We will follow up with waitlisted registrants after the State's deadline (that is, on December 1 for Denver and on December 5 for Baltimore-Washington). Attendance for waitlisted registrants will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis, and we apologize in advance for the short notice that many will have.
