(1) Education Reform:

  • Experience designing, evaluating, or implementing effective educational programs (early learning, K-12, or college) that focus on teaching and learning inside and outside of the classroom for underserved neighborhoods or students.
  • Breadth of knowledge about current comprehensive school improvement strategies and research findings, including how to apply those strategies and research findings in a variety of settings.
  • Expertise in effective early learning programs and systems, particularly those for underserved students.

(2) Community and Youth Development:

  • Experience designing, evaluating, or implementing effective community and youth programs for underserved neighborhoods or students (from early learning through college), which may include but not be limited to initiatives in the areas of health, public safety, housing, financial asset building, internet usage and connectivity, arts and humanities, adult education, and community/family engagement.
  • Breadth of knowledge about the current strategies and research findings regarding youth development, and how to apply those strategies and research findings in a variety of settings
  • Understanding of and experience with integrating effective youth and community development programs in schools and education programs.

IV. CONFLICT OF INTEREST (Check Agree/Understand)

Please be aware that any individual selected as a peer reviewer for the Promise Neighborhoods competition will include a review for possible, apparent, and/or conflict of interest. All potential peer reviewers will be required to complete the following conflict of interest questionnaire. The questionnaire generally seeks to obtain information about the applicant’s professional experience(s), including financial interest that the applicant have in any Promise Neighborhoods application. If a potential conflict of interest is indentified, the Department will consider whether the individual can participate as a peer reviewer in full compliance with all applicable Department policies and procedures. In this, the Department is able to ensure the objective and efficient management and administration of the Promise Neighborhoods program, which ultimately ensures the integrity of the Department’s function and the public confidence in that integrity.
