Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative Project Goals
- Improve the reading and work preparedness of adult learners
- Increase the literacy proficiency of migrant families with ESOL needs
- Improve model family literacy programs
- Improving REA grantee projects by incorporating family literacy performance indicators
- Increase the reading readiness skills of children
Project Description
The Maryland Family Literacy Consortium was formed in __________. The consortium plans to achieve the above stated goals as part of its overall project plan to create system change and improvement by:
- Establishing and using performance indicators to measure the success of family literacy programs Statewide
- Identifying best practices and sharing them among programs
- Providing professional development and technical assistance to local programs
- Expanding direct services through the Maryland Family Reading Plan
Priorities Addressed
- Using research on reading and literacy in program planning
- Implementing a professional development plan for staff
- Increasing the intensity of family literacy activities for school-age children (up to 7 years old)
- Improving local evaluation methods and practices
