Central Washington University at Ellensberg, WA S149A060009

Central Washington University (CWU) is applying for continuation of its College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant. CWU is located-on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains and has the highest concentration of migrant and seasonal farm workers in the state of Washington. CWU’s commuter and residential program will provide academic and financial assistance to 60 migrant farmworker students annually.

Junior College District of Newton and McDonald County-Student Services, DBA Crowder College, Neosho, MO, S149A060013

Crowder College CAMP is designed to serve a minimum of 45 both local and regional migrant students who wish to pursue postsecondary education. Participants have the opportunity to live on campus or commute. During their first year, CAMP provides all necessary financial aid (including room and board, books, tuition, and fees). Participants who complete their first year in good standing are eligible to receive Foundation and other scholarships that help them pay for the subsequent year. Formal transfer arrangements that have been secured by CAMP provide for not only transfer scholarships to help pay for the next two years, but also ensures seamless transferring of credits and coursework.

Portland Community College at Portland, OR S149A060031

Portland Community College proposes to serve Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers (MSFWs) and migrant education students living in parts or all of seven counties in Northwest Oregon. It is home to 8,755 migrant education students, or nearly a third of all migrant education students in Oregon. PCC CAMP's goal is to provide 45 participants (each year) with the academic, student and financial support services necessary to overcome barriers migrant students face to enrolling and completing higher education. Services will include recruitment and selection; intensive student advising, including creating and monitoring individual educational development plans; financial assistance, including a monthly stipend, tuition scholarship, textbook stipend, and an emergency fund to cover healthcare costs or other urgent obstacles to staying in college; a three-term sequence of CAMP courses, including College Survival and Success Study Skills.

Regents of the University of Colorado at Boulder, CO S149A060022

The proposed BUENO Center College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) provides the University of Colorado and Aims Community College the opportunity to recruit migrant and seasonal farm worker students into a program focused on both academic and personal development during a migrant student's freshman year. The primary recruitment initiative for this CAMP program will target GED graduates of the existing BUENO High School Equivalency projects located throughout Colorado. Each year, the BUENO-CAMP program will provide 35 migrant students the opportunity to attend Aims Community College and ultimately transfer to a four-year IHE. Aims Community College is an ideal institution to serve this population of students because of its uniquely crafted academic programs that utilize a "Learning Communities" concept. In addition, the college provides comprehensive student support services through a cost effective commuter campus setting, and its demonstrated ability to prepare students to excel at four-year universities.

Regents of the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, NM S149A060032

University of New Mexico (UNM) NM CAMP has the goals of : 1 ) Recruiting annually 25 eligible students with the highest need from across the state of New Mexico; 2) Provide programming that develops the skills necessary to successfully complete college; 3) To provide assistance with financial aid and supplemental aid to participants; 4) To achieve project success through active collaboration with internal and external agencies; and 5) To retain and graduate UNM CAMP participants and encourage the pursuit of graduation education. Through services including Mentoring / Tutoring / Advisement / Social & Cultural Events / Faculty Mentoring / Academic Mentoring / Workshops / Seminars / Financial Assistance / Admissions Assistance / Residence Life, UNM CAMP is confident that students will be retained and graduate at a rate higher than their peers.

State University of New York at Oneonta, NY S149A060014

SUNY Oneonta CAMP will continue to provide migrant and seasonal farm working families with a comprehensive array of educational and support services in a residential college setting to enable eligible students to successfully complete their first year of college, along with intensive follow-up assistance so that these students are successful in completing their postsecondary education. The specific objectives are to enroll 25 CAMP students each year, ensure that 100% of CAMP students receive appropriate financial aid for entry and completion of the freshman year and secure further financial aid to continue in college and to provide quality services to 100% of CAMP students, including academic skill building and support, freshman seminar/orientation; health services, housing accommodations and extracurricular/cultural events, resulting in at least 80% of participants mastering freshman level skills as measured by a GPA minimum 2.0.

Texas State University at San Marcos, TX S149A060027

MiCASA's goal at TSU is to provide academic, career and support services, and financial assistance to 250 students (50 each project year) during their first academic year. The majority of students will reside in student housing at TSU. MiCASA will provide students with the skills to succeed academically and successfully reach their educational and career goals. GRPA performance indicators and measurable objectives to ensure MiCASA student success are: 85% percent of participants will successfully complete the first academic year of study at TSU. 80% of students who successfully complete year 1 of college will continue in postsecondary education. Objective i. 1 - 50 eligible students in need of CAMP services will be recruited and enrolled in MiCASA. Objective i. 2 -100% of MiCASA students will complete 30 credit hrs with a minimum of a C average during their first year. Objective i. 3 -100% of MiCASA students will have an opportunity to pursue personal, leadership, and cultural enrichment activities.

Washington State University at Pullman, WA S149A060034

Washington has designed a comprehensive College Assistance Migrant Program to serve 50 eligible students in a residential setting. WSU CAMP will provide services and opportunities to increase the rates of access, persistence, retention, and graduation of students from migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFW) backgrounds while fostering a supportive institutional climate of academic success. The needs addressed include: inadequate academic preparation, lack of effective advising and career guidance; financial aid issues; and college connectedness.
