ESEA Flexibility One-Year Extension

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is now offering each State educational agency (SEA) that was approved to begin implementing ESEA flexibility in the 2012-2013 school year (“Window 1” and “Window 2” SEAs) an opportunity to seek a one-year extension (i.e., through the 2014-2015 school year) of its ESEA flexibility request, in place of the previously announced ESEA flexibility renewal process. This one-year extension will allow SEAs and ED to gather additional information on successes and challenges in the implementation of reforms committed to under ESEA flexibility, in order to improve current systems and better support students and teachers. See the letter from Assistant Secretary Delisle and the informational webinar module below for more details regarding the process for requesting this one-year extension.
