Instructions for Using the Data Files
For the FY 2010 School Cohort Default Rate Reports

These instructions explain how to view the data files containing the reports for fiscal year (FY) 2010 Official Cohort Default Rates for Schools.

Using the Data: These files have been compressed for downloading. After downloading, please use PKUNZIP, WinZIP, or another method to decompress the files. These are Microsoft Access 2007 files. If Access 2007 is installed on your system, the files can be opened by directly clicking on the file name (e.g., 10peps300.accdb).

If you do not have Access 2007, you can read and manipulate the data using Microsoft Excel. To do this, launch Excel and use the OPEN function under the FILE menu item to open the .accdb file. If you cannot "see" the file, ensure that you have selected either All File Types or .accdb file types in the box in the lower left of the application window.

The following files are available for download (the PEPS 304 and 305 reports will not be available for download if no schools are subject to cohort default rate sanctions in the most current cohort year):

PEPS300—FY 2010, FY 2009, and FY 2008 official cohort default rates published for schools participating in the Title IV student financial assistance programs.

PEPS304—Schools subject to loss of FFEL Program, Direct Loan Program and/or Pell Grant Program eligibility due to FY 2010, FY 2009, and FY 2008 official cohort default rates of 25% or greater. Definition

PEPS305—Schools subject to loss of FFEL Program, Direct Loan Program and/or Pell Grant Program eligibility due to FY 2010 official cohort default rates greater than 40%. Definition

PEPS751—Schools that have an FY 2010 official cohort default rate that is less than 5.0% and are eligible to make single and non-delayed disbursements on loans used for attendance in a study abroad program as defined in Section 428G(e) of the HEA.

PEPS753—Schools that have had an official cohort default rate of less than 10.0% for each of the three most recent fiscal years for which data are available, including eligible foreign institutions. These schools are eligible to disburse, in a single installment, loans that are made for one semester, one trimester, one quarter, or a four-month period. Such an institution is also no longer required to delay the first disbursement of a loan for 30 days for first-time, first-year undergraduate borrowers as defined in Section 428G(a)(3) and (b)(1) of the Higher Education Reconciliation Act (HERA).
