U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced today the award of 13 grants totaling $5,363,734 to programs in nine states that will help migrant students enter and succeed in college.
“CAMP is vital to the futures of many young people and their families, and the importance of a college education cannot be overemphasized,” said Duncan. “Many students may be the first in their families to go to college. Providing access to college can open the doors to careers that are not available otherwise.”
Grants are awarded under the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) to support students who are migratory or seasonal farm workers, or the children of such workers, during their first year of undergraduate studies. The program serves approximately 2,000 students annually.
