Saving Jobs, Education Reform Focus of Tuesday TV Show

The U.S. Department of Education will devote a special edition of its monthly TV show, "Education News Parents Can Use," to examining how the recently enacted stimulus package can help save or create jobs and promote education reform.

The program will be carried from 8 to 9 p.m. ET Tuesday on the Dish Network, dozens of PBS stations and numerous cable outlets. Other broadcast, cable and satellite channels will air the show on a tape-delayed basis. A complete listing of viewing options is available at www.ed.gov/edtv. Leading educators, including U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and California State University Chancellor Charles Reed, will be among those explaining how the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) will help all Americans. Among the topics:

  • What are the key educational components of the ARRA?
  • How will the act avert teacher and administrator layoffs and generate jobs?
  • How will it spur innovation and reform and make us more competitive in the global economy?
  • How will it help more students afford, attend and ultimately succeed in college?
  • Where can parents and educators find out more about the act and monitor how the funds are being spent on the federal, state and local level?
