Secretary Duncan will give remarks at the McKinley Technology High School graduation in Washington, D.C. McKinley Tech is the only D.C. public high school specializing in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills, with students selecting a focus area in information technology, biotechnology, engineering or mass media.

Secretary Duncan will give remarks during the medallion ceremony for this year’s class of U.S. Presidential Scholars. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program honors 141 of the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Duncan will congratulate the scholars for their outstanding academic and artistic achievements, their leadership and their public service. During the ceremony, each scholar will be presented with the Presidential Scholar Medallion on behalf of the White House.

Secretary Duncan will testify before the Senate Budget Committee on the U.S. Department of Education’s FY2014 budget.

Secretary Duncan will visit a classroom at St. Benedict Center for Early Childhood Education. He will also participate in a roundtable discussion with local leaders where he will highlight the President’s plan to expand early learning opportunities to more children.

Secretary Duncan will visit a classroom and participate in a town hall at the Middletown YMCA to discuss the importance of the President’s early learning proposals.

Secretary Duncan will participate in a panel discussion at the National PTA’s Pre-Conference Town Hall on Bullying Prevention. The discussion will focus on strategies for educators, parents and community members to implement bullying prevention programs.

Secretary Duncan will participate in a roundtable at the San Francisco City Hall where he will discuss San Francisco’s K2C Program with Mayor Edwin Lee, California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, and San Francisco Treasurer Jose Cisneros.

Secretary Duncan will participate in a question-and-answer session about improving the nation’s education system at the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) led by PPIC President Mark Baldassare. Discussion topics will include the importance of early learning, California districts seeking a waiver under the No Child Left Behind law, and the future of higher education.
