Secretary Duncan will make brief remarks about the vital importance of quality early learning programs at the Early Learning Builds Our Future event at the Capitol, sponsored by the National Women's Law Center and Moms Rising's Strong Start Campaign for Children. The event will feature huge building blocks that spell early learning messages and activities for children, participants, legislators and Administration officials.

Thursday, Sept. 18

Secretary Duncan will meet with students and teachers at Parthum Middle School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to learn about the school's progress in student achievement and its model for developing teacher leadership and strengthening the teaching profession. A media avail will follow.

6:00 p.m.
Secretary Duncan will visit Boston Public School's Mildred Avenue K-8 school to join players from the Boston Celtics and young men from across the area for a town hall about President Obama's My Brother's Keeper initiative. A media avail will precede the discussion.

Secretary Duncan will give remarks and participate in a Q&A session on improving education and increasing equity at Harvard Graduate School of Education's (HGSE) "Critical Conversations and Bold Ideas" celebration. Moderated by Monica Higgins, HGSE professor, Duncan will take questions from principals, teachers, K-12 students, faculty and staff.
