Secretary Duncan will visit the national finals for six teams of high school culinary students who are competing in preparing healthy school lunches. Duncan will stop by the event where he will learn about the students’ dishes and congratulate them for their hard work. Finalists in the Cooking Up Change® contest sponsored by the Chicago-based Healthy Schools Campaign, include students from Chicago, Denver, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Santa Ana, Calif., and Winston-Salem, N.C.

Duncan will deliver remarks at National Small Business Week 2012’s awards breakfast honoring small businesses that have provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services as both contractors and subcontractors.

Wednesday, May 23

Duncan will join national education officials in hosting state and district education leaders from 41 states for the 2012 Labor Management Conference. The two-day event, entitled, “Collaborating to Transform the Teaching Profession," will focus on how to transform the teaching profession, highlighting innovative approaches to improve student achievement by dramatically increasing the stature of the teaching profession and the number of highly qualified teachers in our nation’s schools.
