ACTION: Notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year
(FY) 2001; clarification.

SUMMARY: On September 11, 2000 we published in the Federal Register
Notices Inviting Applications for New Awards for FY 2001 for the GAANN
and JKJ fellowship programs. (GAANN at 65 FR 54844 and JKJ at 65 FR
54843). The notices announced that the Secretary would determine both
the GAANN and JKJ fellowship stipend levels for the academic year 2001-
2002 based on the level of support provided by the National Science
Foundation (NSF) graduate fellowships, with adjustments as necessary to
ensure that the amount would not exceed the fellow's demonstrated level
of financial need.
This notice is to clarify that the Secretary will make the
determination of the stipend levels for both GAANN and JKJ fellowships
by using the level of the NSF stipend level for the Graduate Research
Fellowship Program as of February 1, 2001.
