Building Linkages Through Career Clusters in High Technology Industries


UPDATE May 19, 1999

Amendment 0001 to RFP ED-99-R-0017 has been issued. The purpose of this amendment is to:

  1. Delete Attachment B, as it is no longer necessary for this solicitation.
  2. Extend the proposal submission date to 12pm EST, May 27, 1999.
  3. Add a list of questions and answers concerning the solicitation (attached below as file "Q&A.DOC").

The Department of Education contemplates three(3) awards to fulfill the requirement to create career cluster curricular frameworks for each of the following industry areas: Audio Visual/Communications Technology - development, and operations of communication systems hardware and software) for the recording, storage, processing and distribution of voice/video and data. Information Technology - design, develop, and support, hardware/software and systems integration services. Transportation, Distribution,Logistic - planning, implementing and controlling the physical movement of materials, products and people. Five key activities are required: Form consortia of states, education secondary and postsecondary, academic and vocational, coalitions of employers and trade associations and incumbent workers. Develop a curricular framework in a career cluster area that is based on existing industry and state academic standards. Use the curricular model as the foundation, develop curriculum at the pilot sites that include instructional strategies and materials, that teach and assess competency in academic and technical knowledge. Develop effective methods for measuring, and documenting student progress and provide technical assistance and professional development to local sites for the pilot testing of the models.
