The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) appropriated significant new funding for programs under Parts B and C of the IDEA. The IDEA ARRA funds provided an unprecedented opportunity for states, local educational agencies, and early intervention service providers to implement innovative strategies to improve outcomes for infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities while stimulating the economy.
The Department of Education awarded 50 percent of the IDEA, Part B and C Grants to States and Preschool Grants ARRA funds to states on April 1, 2009. The other 50 percent was awarded on August 31, 2009. These awards were made in addition to the regular Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 Part B Grants to States and Preschool Grants awards that were made on July 1 (Grants to States and Preschool Grants) and October 1, 2009 (Grants to States only).
