Abstract:

Multiple Data Entry System (MDE) receives, reviews, collects, and transmits student aid application data to the Central Processing System. Application data is collected on two forms: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and the Renewal FASFA.

Purpose:

The MDE receives paper student aid applications and renewal applications. The MDE extracts the data by imaging or keypunching and transmits the data to the Central Processing System.

Agency Program:

Title IV of the Higher Education Act authorizes the Department to collect data on student income and assets to calculate eligibility for financial aid.

Sources of Data:

Data come from students who apply, or reapply, for postsecondary student aid via paper forms.

Access Constraints:

Direct access to the system is limited to authorized ED staff. Information in this system is exempt from disclosure under provisions of the Privacy Act.
