Interim Report on the Evaluation of the Growth Model Pilot Project (MS Word) (Apr 08, 2010)
The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was any effect from application of the growth models; to provide information about how to strengthen the use of growth under the ESEA; and to provide information for states that might consider applying to use a growth model under current regulations. The interim report analyzes the effects of growth models in the first eight states approved under the pilot: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Abstract: Use of Education Data at the Local Level: From Accountability to Instructional Improvement (Jan 26, 2010)
This study examined the characteristics of data systems and their use at the classroom level. More specifically, it looked at what types of student data systems were available to school staff, how school staff were using the systems and other forms of student data, teachers' understanding of data displays and data interpretation issues, and the supports and challenges for school-level use of student data in planning and implementing instruction.

An Exploratory Analysis of Adequate Yearly Progress, Identification for Improvement, and Student Achievement in Two States and Three Cities (Aug 17, 2009)
This report presents the results of exploratory quasi-experimental analyses that use a Regression Discontinuity (RD) design to examine the relationships between certain features of NCLB accountability and subsequent student achievement in Title I schools in two states and three school districts. Specifically, the report examines the effects of not making AYP or of being identified for the first year of school improvement status (after missing AYP for two consecutive years).

Differentiated Accountability Pilot Program States (Jul 01, 2009)
This page includes information about the differentiated accountability pilot project which provides an opportunity for states to propose their own methods for categorizing identified schools and determining the interventions required for each category. this pilot will allow states the flexibility to focus more precisely their technical assistance and interventions (under section 1116 of ESEA) on schools with the greatest need.
