The following tables are available illustrating key aspects of the Department of Education Budget:

  • FY 2014 Congressional Action (last updated 01/23/2014), in PDF [215KB] and MS Excel [319KB]. On January 17, 2014, the President signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014 (P.L. 113-76), making appropriations for FY 2014 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies through September 30, 2014.

  • FY 2013 Congressional Action (last updated 04/25/2013), in PDF [352KB] and MS Excel [248KB]. On March 26, 2013, the President signed P.L. 113-6, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013, providing funding for the remainder of fiscal year 2013. On April 25, 2013, the Department provided an operating plan to Congress showing the distribution of the appropriation (link above) and a narrative summary PDF. In general, programs are reduced 5.23 percent less than the 2012 level. The 5.23 percent reduction is the effect of the sequester and an across-the-board cut in the final appropriation.

  • FY 2012 Congressional Action A table (last updated 02/06/2013) shows the appropriation for FY 2012 and the required across-the-board rescission. It also includes the FY 2011 appropriation, and the FY 2012 President's budget request. For elementary and secondary education programs, Congress passed this bill using the current Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
