Other FIPSE 2014 Grant Competitions:
On January 17, 2014 President Obama signed the FY 2014 Omnibus Budget Bill. The budget agreement includes $79,400,000 for the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to conduct four competitive discretionary grant competitions. The appropriations include $75,000,000 to implement a new program entitled, First in the World (FITW), which includes an up to $20,000,000 set aside for minority-serving institutions. This initiative will support innovative strategies and practices shown to be effective in improving educational outcomes and making college more affordable for students and families, especially those who are low-income. All FITW-funded projects include a strong evaluation component.
Other programs in the budget agreement include the Training for Realtime Writers Program that has been conducted annually since 2010, a new competition to support Centers for the Study of Distance Education and Technological Advancements, and a new competition to fund a Center for Best Practices to Support Single Parent Students.
Department staff is currently developing guidelines and priorities for each of the four competitions. We will announce dates and guidelines in the Federal Register and on the FIPSE Web site at www.ed.gov/fipse. Application instructions and forms will be available at the time of announcement in Grants.gov. Submission dates will be 30-45 days after each program announcement and all funds should have been awarded by the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2014.
