On November 30 – December 1, 2010, the Full-Service Community Schools team held its Project Director Meeting. The meeting provided technical assistance for the newly funded 2010 grantees as well as the first cohort of grantees previously funded in 2008. On November 18, 2010, the Parental Information and Resource Center (PIRC) team held a webinar titled The Teacher-Parent Relationship: Using Professional Development to Improve Family and Community Engagement. This webinar is the fourth webinar in the Achieving Excellence and Innovation in Family, School and Community Engagement Webinar series. On November 9, 2010, POI hosted the National Policy Forum for Family, School and Community Engagement. Moderated by Karen Mapp of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, several senior officials from the Department and other education stakeholders representing families, communities, government and philanthropy, delivered remarks or participated in panel discussions focusing on the shared responsibility and best practices to support children’s learning from cradle to career in the home, school and community. A working paper was shared prior to the event and helped to guide conversation. A copy of the working paper can be requested by sending an email to pirc@ed.gov.
On November 4 – 5, 2010, the Magnet Schools Assistance Program held its Project Director Meeting for the 36 newly funded grantees. Grantees attended sessions regarding strengthening project objectives, grant reporting requirements and other technical assistance needs. They also met with representatives from the Office of Civil Rights to discuss necessary reporting requirements for their desegregation plans.
