Susan E. Craig is the Assistant General Counsel for the Division of Educational Equity and Research. The Division provides legal services to the Department on the administration of programs relating to special education for children with disabilities, vocational rehabilitation, independent living, and other services for adults with disabilities, bilingual education for limited English proficient students, desegregation assistance, educational research and the development and dissemination of model educational programs. The Division also provides advice on civil rights issues involving discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, sex, age, and disability.

Ms. Craig was born in Wilmington, Delaware. She received a B.A. from the University of Rochester, an M.A. from the University of Southern California, and a J.D. from Yale Law School. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Supreme Court Bar. She has served as Assistant General Counsel since 1986 and has worked at the Department of Education and its predecessor -- the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare -- since 1976. She has received the Presidential Meritorious Federal Executive Award and other Departmental awards.
