2010 U.S. Department of Education Reading Institute and Early Learning and Development: Birth to Third Grade StrandThe U.S. Department of Education convened the 2010 Reading Institute, in Anaheim, California, July 19-21, 2010. This year, for the first time, the Department of Education collaborated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institute for Literacy to offer a separate Early Learning and Development Strand at the Institute. The Early Learning Strand offered sessions on developmentally appropriate practices in language and literacy for children from birth to third grade, and on planning and building comprehensive early learning systems and infrastructure. The presentation slides from these sessions, along with audio podcasts of seven featured sessions, links to pre-Institute webinars, and other resources, are available at the post-conference website: http://www.mikogroup.com/2010readinginstitute.
2010 Indian Demonstration Application Available
The Notice inviting applications for the 2010 Indian Demonstration Grant program was published on December 3, 2009. The purpose of the Demonstration Grants for Indian Children program is to provide financial assistance to projects that develop, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of services and programs to improve the educational opportunities and achievement of preschool, elementary, and secondary Indian students. The official open and closing dates are as follows:
- Grant Application Opens: December 3, 2009
Grant Application Closing Date: February 18, 2010

2010 Formula Grant EASIE Registration is Open
From November 13 to December 11, 2009 current Indian formula grantees will be able to register for the 2010 formula grant application. Registration is needed to have access to Part I of the EASIE online application. The following dates have been established for the 2010 Indian Formula Grant aplication cycle:- -Registration opens on November 13, 2009
-Registration closes on December 11, 2009
-Part IA will open on January 4th, 2010
-Part IA will close on February 12th, 2010
-Part IIA will open on April 5th, 2010
-Part IIA will close on May 5th, 2010
