MINORITY STUDENTS

AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE-SERVING INSTITUTIONS: This list was developed by the Department of Education for the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education to assist it in carrying out its responsibilities under Executive Order 13592, signed December 2, 2011, which includes collecting data to understand the federal investment in institutions of higher education that serve significant numbers of American Indian and Alaska Native students.

This list includes public and private non-profit 2- and 4-year institutions of higher education other than theological seminaries that have a headcount enrollment as reported in IPEDS of either: 1) 10% American Indian and/or Alaska Native students, or 2) 300 or more American Indian and/or Alaska Native students. It is not a statutorily defined category and is referenced here only for information purposes; therefore, other federal agencies should not rely on this list to identify institutions that may meet any official requirements specific to their agencies.

This category is distinct from the category of institutions that are eligible for the grant programs administered by the Department of Education including the Native American-Serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI) program and the Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions (ANNH) program.
