Daniel B. Berch is Associate Chief of the Child Development and Behavior Branch at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he also directs the Program in Mathematics and Science Cognition and Learning. He formerly served as Senior Research Associate at the U. S. Department of Education, advising the Assistant Secretary for Educational Research and Improvement on technical and policy matters pertaining to education research. Prior to this appointment, he served as an Executive Branch Science Policy Fellow at the NIH, sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Society for Research in Child Development. He has published in the areas of children's numerical cognition, mathematical learning disabilities, and the development of spatial information processing.
