In March 1999, the Department, with the support of the National School Boards Association, invited more than 16,000 Superintendents of school districts to participate in a web-based survey of their Y2K readiness. Over 3,500 responses were received by the June 4 closing date. During the first week of October, the Department completed a follow-up, random sample phone survey of nearly 1,200 school districts. Final follow-up survey results, reported from 985 respondents, show the following: Mission-Critical Systems
- In the October survey, 64 percent of the respondents reported all mission-critical systems were Y2K compliant. This compares with 28 percent reporting full compliance at the time of the June survey.
- In the October survey, 68 percent reported all mission-critical systems were or would be compliant by October 1. This compares with 72 percent expecting full compliance by October 1 in the June Survey.
- In the October survey, 96 percent reported all mission-critical systems were or would be compliant by January 1. This compares with 98 percent in the June survey expecting to be fully compliant by January 1.
Contingency Plans
- In the October survey, 65 percent reported contingency plans were completed. This compares with 55 percent at the time of the June survey.
- In the October survey, 65 percent reported contingency plans were or would be completed by October 1. This compares with 63 percent in the June survey expecting to complete them by October 1.
- In the October survey, 83 percent reported contingency plans were or would be completed by January 1. This compares with 97 percent in the June survey expecting to complete them by January 1.
October status of Central Administrative Systems (e.g., accounting, finance, payroll, etc.)
- 73 percent of respondents reported all Central Administrative Systems were Y2K compliant.
- 96 percent of respondents reported all Central Administrative Systems were or would be compliant by January 1.
October status of Student Services (e.g., student records, bus schedules, food services, etc.)
- 72 percent of respondents reported all Student Services were Y2K compliant.
- 96 percent of respondents reported all Student Services were or would be compliant by January 1.
October survey status of Infrastructure (e.g., heating, security, telecommunications, building, etc.)
- 56 percent of respondents reported all Infrastructure components were Y2K compliant.
- 86 percent of respondents reported all Infrastructure components were or would be compliant by January 1.
